Well, here’s a story, sad but true, about a man whose job came under threat. Meet Greg Williams – no, not that Greg Williams who made a name for himself playing for the Washington Redskins. This is a homely guy – great husband, better dad – who makes his living in the movie business. Except you have probably never heard of him by name. But those of you who have seen one or two adult movies might have seen this good looking guy. . . Ah, ha! It’s sometimes hard to drag your eyes away from the young ladies in shot but, in the straight sex movies, there has to be a guy around. Well, Greg has made his living out of his looks and physique for the last decade or so. At first, he was just an outstanding success. There he would be on a cold and draughty set with a crew of bored technicians standing around while the lighting tech fiddled with the color tinting to get just the right effect. A MILF would be huddled in a corner sipping a cup of hot cocoa. The director would get the nod. The lights were ready. So, it’s places everyone and, “Action!” Which is why Greg was such a professional always in demand from directors. He could join the gun club the moment the cocoa disappeared and the MILF smiled. No matter how far back in time you travel, you will always find stories about men having problems with their erections. In most of the early plays, poetry and literature, the unfortunates are held up for our pity and, sometimes, our amusement. So long as men are supposed to be the ones with all the power in society, loss of power in the bedroom equals loss of manhood. They almost become less than men. In the earliest times when it was customary to castrate some men as the price of specific work opportunities, this produced a significant irony. It was the difference between physical emasculation as a career choice and those whose equipment simply refused to work properly. Such men became lower even than the eunuchs.
